Bronx River Festival

We Celebrated Your River At
THE BRONX RIVER FESTIVAL
June 14, 2014
Shoelace Park, 219 St & Bronx Blvd

The Bronx River Alliance was thrilled with the turn out we had Saturday, June 14th in Shoelace Park. Below are a few of the pictures from the Festival. We had amazing weather and met some equally amazing people. Family's from all over the Bronx and other New York Boroughs traveled to Shoelace Park to participate in the many activities the Alliance helped to organize.

Members of the Bronx River Alliance's Greenway team offered bike loans to the public while Bike NYC helped teach kids how to ride their bikes. Local art teacher, James Martocci, taught countless children how to use watercolor paint to create art based off of Bronx River animals.  Some attendees were lucky enough to see a Capoeria, a Brazilian dance-martial art demonstration by a Bronx based dojo. Soon after, Curves on Tremont/West Farms came out and held a free zumba class to get the crowd moving. Nearby, Jupiter Joe gave an out-of-this-world lesson about the sun to the public using a special telescope. Stephen Paul DeVillo, led rambles through the park to discuss the history and ecology of Shoelace Park. Throughout the day, over 150 Bronx community members went on free canoe paddles to explore the Bronx River. For many this was their first time on the Bronx River, let alone in a canoe! Check our calendar and news articles to find out about upcoming community events and the transformative work that the Bronx River Alliance is doing. We can't wait to see you all again to celebrate the Bronx River!

This event could not have happened without the support of United Health Care, the Bronx Community Charter School, NYC Parks Play Mobile Unit, and Bike NYC. A big 'thank you' to all of the volunteers that contributed to the success of this event including Mike Gupta who MC'ed the Festival and Digital DJ RR who provided music throughout the day.
