Join us as we honor these amazing leaders at An Upstream Soirée in 2023!
From 2017-2023, Maggie served as the Executive Director for the Bronx River Alliance Bronx River Administrator for NYC Parks. Before that, she also served in various roles at the Bronx River Alliance from 2005-2017 ranging from Greenway Coordinator to Director of Programs and Development. Her background in environmental science and policy and urban planning has involved work in the environmental review process at the Federal, State and local levels and nearly two decades of urban river restoration, waterfront park and trail development, environmental education and community engagement in the Bronx. During her 18 year tenure at the Bronx River Alliance, Maggie secured and guided investments of more than $250 million in greenway and ecological restoration and climate resiliency projects, and worked with multiple partners, ranging from community based organizations to Federal agencies, to reclaim the river as a resource for the communities along it.
Lina Krakue is an early childhood educator with 25 years of experience under her belt! She has been a part of the Bronx River Alliance's membership program for a little over a year as well as an active Paddle volunteer. "As an educator and life long learner I am always looking for different opportunities to learn new things and find meaningful ways to give back to my community, because even the small things matter! I am proud to belong to the Public Prep Network of charter schools in our pre-school division. I consider teaching preschool grass roots activism because preschoolers are the basis for change! When I volunteer weekly I think about how I can bring what I've learned back to the classroom to guide our students in realizing their power and promise through the values of scholarship, excellence, integrity and of course community!"
