Development and Communications Intern

The Bronx River Alliance serves as a coordinated voice for the river and works in harmonious partnership to protect, improve and restore the Bronx River corridor so that it can be a healthy ecological, recreational, educational and economic resource for the communities through which the river flows.

 

The Bronx River Alliance is seeking a part-time Development and Communications Intern interested in developing professional skills relating to nonprofit fundraising, event management, and marketing. The intern will help plan and execute the Alliance’s fundraising events and support the day-to-day operations of the development department. In addition, the intern will take an active role in supporting the management of the Alliance’s digital communications platforms. This part-time internship position will report to the Special Events Coordinator.

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Providing key administrative and logistical support for the Alliance’s major fundraising events such as our annual Gala, the Upstream Soiree
  • Managing day-to-day communications across the organization’s digital platforms, including Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and the Alliance’s website, bronxriver.org
  • Assisting with development of marketing materials (flyers, calendars, etc) and email marketing campaigns
  • Supporting the administration and execution of the Alliance’s membership program
  • Assisting the Development Program as needed 

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday 15 to 20 hours per week. Hours can be flexible depending on availability. Occasional weekends and weeknights. 

Qualifications: 

  • Background in event planning and management preferred
  • Knowledge of nonprofit fundraising preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite and Adobe Suite required
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required
  • Advanced social media management skills and experience preferred
  • Graphic Design skills preferred
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment required
  • Awareness of database functioning with the willingness to learn our donor database preferred
  • A passion for Environmental Justice and community organizing
