Join us on Sunday, July 9, 2023 for an Upper River Paddle on the Bronx River! This guided paddle starts at the Shoelace Park boat launch and ends at the Mitsubishi River Walk in the Bronx Zoo. It takes paddlers through the upper freshwater portion of the river featuring the Bronx River Forest, the Botanical Gardens, and more! A great opportunity to see some of the greenest areas in the Bronx!
*Please note that this is an advanced level paddle and we recommend that paddlers have some basic canoe or kayak experience for this particular trip. This paddle also includes a portage which requires walking your canoe along a section of the Botanical Gardens for 5-10 minutes, and requires some physical strength. Please be prepared to carry your own canoe through this section.
Paddlers will have the option of a canoe (for doubles and families) or a single-person kayak. Solo paddlers will be given priority for our limited number of kayaks. We will provide boats, paddles, PFDs, and a basic paddling safety orientation prior to getting on the water. We ask that participants wear appropriate athletic clothing that may get wet, including closed toe shoes! A ziploc bag to protect a phone or other essentials is also a great idea. We strongly recommend that participants bring a reusable water bottle and a snack for their time out on the water.
All participants must fill out and sign a release waiver before getting on the water.
COVID Safety Protocols: Please perform an at-home health check before attending this event, and stay home if you are experiencing any of the following: cough, shortness of breath/difficulty breathing, fever, chills, muscle pain, sore throat, or a new loss of taste or smell.
