Shoelace Park is a ribbon of land along the river that was set aside in the early 20th century for the creation of the Bronx River Parkway, the first limited access highway in the country.
Today, this historic roadbed offers one-and-a-half miles of uninterrupted running, biking, and skating in the North Bronx. The northernmost boat launch on the Bronx River is located west of the Olinville Playground near 219th St.
The Bronx River Alliance serves as a coordinated voice for the river and works in harmonious partnership to protect, improve and restore the Bronx River corridor so that it can be a healthy ecological, recreational, educational and economic resource for the communities through which the river flows.
The Alliance works in close partnership with the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation and with over one hundred other partners to reclaim the Bronx River.
