Our newest intern at the Bronx River Alliance, Nathaniel "Nomi" Saxton, joins us from Hunter College CUNY where he is a senior majoring in Environmental Science in the Geography Department. Over the past several weeks he has been working diligently in helping to control invasive plants species, assisting with canoe outings, and maintaining the cleanliness of the river that is so important for the ecological survival of the waterway. He has also helped with the removal of downed trees and river blockages, and has been studying the rainwater catchment systems which help take stress off the cities combined sewage overflow. Nathaniel is working on a research project which is detailing the history of the Bronx River as well as the conservation efforts that have been undertaken to maintain and protect the only true river in the New York City area which is an important part of the city’s history and ecological diversity. We are excited to have Nathaniel as part of our team.
