Hello my name is Quinel Kendricks and I’m the newest member added to the Bronx River Alliance Conservation Crew. I used to work with the Million Trees Training program and started work with the Bronx River Alliance on June 15 and have been with the Alliance for almost two months. My experiences with the Bronx River Alliance include removing Japanese Knotweed, mugwort, pruning dogwoods, putting in coir logs to stop erosion with the Mayor’s City Volnteer Corps, cleaning out blockages from the river and helping to organize many events to better the community in the Bronx.
The Bronx River Alliance has shown me how to demonstrate my skills in many different ways, the importance of the Personal Flotation Devices (PFD) and have helped me on of my tree identification skills. Three weeks ago, summer youth from Mosholu Preservation Corporation along with Valerie and I took a hike through the nature trail in the Bronx Zoo and we learned about the different birds such as the robin, the hawk, the Canadian goose and the sparrow. Last, but not least, my first month with the Bronx River Alliance crew has been very exciting. There was never a day that I came to work and felt left out when we are out in the field. It’s a very exciting feeling that I get because I know that I’m doing something good for the environment and the community.
