Winter Walks in the Bronx River Forest

1_16_09 34 Mallards south of island

This sord of mallards spent the afternoon cruising up and down the Bronx River in the Bronx River Forest. They were not alone however, just the only fowl not camera shy. We also saw a flock of hooded mergansers that had no interest in being photographed or even stared at for that matter, and we were also surprised by a turkey-sized male Ring-necked pheasant that launched itself out of the brush and flew up to a branch about fifty feet above our heads. We expect similar sightings on out Winter Nature Walk on Saturday, January 24th.
