The Bronx River Alliance joined the NYC Greenway Coalition and attended the public hearing on Wednesday, June 28, 2022, held by the The City Council’s Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. The Alliance shared testimony in support of the Greenways Master Plan bill & equitable funding in greenways.
“Our group envisions a public realm that celebrates and enriches city life. Well-managed public space is critical to keeping people safe, connected, and healthy. It reinforces the vitality of our communities and supports local businesses. Leadership can close these gaps and make this a reality in every neighborhood.” GothamGazette, June 27, 2022, www.gothamgazette.com/games-archive/130-opinion/11417-public-space-management-new-york-city-recovery.
“The hearing included consideration of Int. 0291-2022, a bill which would require the Department of Transportation to partner with the Departments of Parks and Recreation, City Planning, Design and Construction, and Environmental Protection, as well as a private, non-profit development corporation, to create a citywide master plan for the construction and maintenance of greenways in all five boroughs. This is the first attempt to create such a plan since 1993.” CityLand, August 3, 2022, www.citylandnyc.org/city-council-holds-public-hearing-on-greenway-master-plan/.
