400 alewife herring released into the Bronx River!

IMG_0391

On April 9, the Bronx River Alliance, NYC Parks and the CT Department of Energy and Environment released nearly 400 fish into the river to spawn. Their offspring will be imprinted on the river, and later this summer will swim out to the open ocean, where they will remain until they return to the Bronx River in 3-5 years to spawn. This is the third year in a row of fish releases into the river.
