With the help of 36 volunteers from DHL, we were able to plant 20 shrubs and 305 herbaceous plants at Starlight Park. This project helped replant and maintain raingardens near the Bronx River designed to soak up excess rainfall and provide critical habitat for pollinator and bird species. Pollinator plants promote helpful pollinator insects which, in addition to pollinating food gardens such as the Foodway in nearby Concrete Plant Park, provide food for local and migrating birds. DHL volunteers assisted our Conservation Crew planting, mulching, and weeding these raingardens, which increases community connections with nature in park mostly oriented to recreation. By engaging people in planting beautiful stormwater management installation, we can address underlying causes of pollution to the Bronx River.
Thank you DHL and Arbor Day Foundation for supporting this event.
