The Bronx River Needs Your Help!

Project-WASTE-4-medium

New York Senate just introduced the gold standard BYOBag Act in their state budget proposal but we need your help to get it in the final budget. The Assembly did not include any plastic bag ban legislation in their budget proposal, and Governor Cuomo’s proposal released last month doesn’t go far enough. Send a message to Governor Cuomo and the Assembly urging them to join the Senate in a final budget agreement that includes the BYOBag Act by the deadline April 1st.

The Clean Water Act, which protects our nation’s waterways, is under attack by the current administration. They are seeking to rollback protections, making it easier for polluters by eliminating the laws and standards that control their pollution. Send the message to strengthen the Clean Water Act and make the Bronx River fishable and swimmable by submitting comments by Monday, April 15. For more information, click here.

U.S Army Corps of Engineers is considering six different plans to protect against coastal storm surge as part of its New York – New Jersey Harbor and Tributaries (NYNJHAT) Coastal Storm Risk Management Feasibility Study. These plans propose building miles of walls within and around the New York Harbor and Long Island Sound, harming waterways like the Bronx River and Hudson River by blocking fish migration, restricting tide flow, and trapping pollutants. Public meetings will be held in March and April for you to voice your input, starting on Tuesday, March 12 at Westchester County Center from 5 to 7 pm. Learn more here.
