The morning of December 6th was incredibly emotional, with energies high and somber feelings surrounding dear tree friends – Maxwell and Cinder. Kindergarten classes from PS 154x in the South Bronx opened their classroom to two tree seedlings this October, who became a dear friend and staple within their classroom. After two months of nurturing their seedlings, creating investigative questions surrounding their change, and sharing their everyday routines with the trees – students marched through the Bronx River Forest with their teachers in excitement to add their trees to the “gatrillions” of trees estimated by the students living in the area. After teachers ceremoniously place the trees in the ground, emotions ran high as students sang a quick good-bye song in unison. We thank the teachers and administrative support of the Tree Grows In The Bronx program for the 2018 year.
