Worst water quality year on record

BRA_small_multiples_v2_small

During the recreational season (May – October) this year our water quality monitoring program documented the worst water quality seen in a decade according to regional experts. In addition to sites we know have chronic sewage issues, this year we also documented other potential sources of fecal pollution in Westchester County, particularly in Mount Pleasant in the uppermost watershed and in White Plains, where samples registered the highest possible value according to our methods. Additionally, the United States Department of Justice, on behalf of the Environmental Protection Agency, filed a lawsuit against Mount Vernon for violations to the Clean Water Act. We will continue to monitor and work with municipalities and agencies to reverse these sources of sewage pollution.
