A special guest appeared at River House: a female snapping turtle, looking for a place to lay her eggs. Native to the Bronx River, snapping turtles crawl out onto land during the spring to lay their eggs and wander as far as a quarter mile for a suitable spot. Our staff were able to relocate her to a safer place away from the busy greenway!
Hopefully wildlife like this beautiful turtle will continue to flourish as we continue to clean and restore the Bronx River.
