On Wednesday, October 13, the Bronx River Alliance joined the Harlem River Working Group, Bronx Council for Environmental Quality, and many others to celebrate the 10 Year Anniversary of the Bronx and Harlem Rivers Urban Waters Federal Partnership (UWFP)
The UWFP is an initiative led by the EPA to provide support for the restoration of major urban watersheds across the US. In 2011, the Bronx and Harlem River Watersheds were designated as an Urban Waters Federal Partnership Location.
Since 2011, the UWFP has resulted in:
- The designation of the Bronx River as a National Water Trail
- $10M in DOT TIGER funding for the Bronx River Greenway
- The publishing of the Harlem River Greenway Vision Plan
- The return of Alewife Herring to the Bronx River
So – there’s a lot to celebrate, and a lot more to look forward to, including a shoreline access project along the Hudson River Estuary that will revitalize 215,000 square feet of unused waterfront parkland, the completion of major improvements to Starlight Park, and much, much more.
We can’t wait to keep working hard to push for a healthier, cleaner Bronx and Harlem River Watershed.
