A community space welcome to all
River House is a cutting-edge environmental learning laboratory and operations home for the Bronx River Alliance.
In addition to storing kayaks and canoes for community use, the River House shares offices, classrooms, and meeting space with the people who live, work, and play in the Bronx.
This model of sustainability and resiliency is located between the Bronx Botanical Gardens and the Bronx Zoo in beautiful Starlight Park.
In the community multi-purpose room, local groups and citizen scientists can share information and collaborate around the river. This gathering place for local experts, academics, and government officials helps us advance a common vision for reclaiming New York City’s only freshwater river.
In the boathouse, we store dozens of canoes and kayaks for river expeditions— now easily accessible directly on the river’s banks! The boathouse also serves as a wet classroom, enabling small groups of students and citizen scientists to bring in samples from the river, as well as prepare and clean equipment.
The nature classroom is designed and outfitted to promote student collaboration, engagement, and student-led learning. With water-quality monitoring equipment and high-tech A/V learning tools, students can review concepts like dissolved oxygen and pH before going out to the river to make observations in nature.
Bronx River House serves as the headquarters of Bronx River Alliance program staff and Conservation Crew. The central location of office space, storage for vehicles and tools, locker rooms, and showers enables us to house all our operations right on the river itself. We can more readily respond to changing conditions and expand the circle of river stewards—ready to roll up their sleeves and pitch in for the river.
Bronx River House is 7,000 square foot NYC Parks facility operated by the Bronx River Alliance, located alongside the river in Starlight Park in the South Bronx.

The Bronx River Alliance serves as a coordinated voice for the river and works in harmonious partnership to protect, improve and restore the Bronx River corridor so that it can be a healthy ecological, recreational, educational and economic resource for the communities through which the river flows.
