We help everyone experience the river
Discover an intimate experience with the river corridor. Operating hand-in-hand with other Bronx River Alliance programs (Education, Ecology, Greenway, and Outreach) Recreation programs help you relax and connect with the river, and also integrate lessons, projects, and programs.
From May – October, you’ll find a full calendar of public canoe tours along all eight miles of the Bronx River within the Bronx. Chartered tours for groups and individuals are available as well.Â
On these trips, you’ll gain more awareness of our river, delight in its wonders, and—oh, yes!—have fun. We know you’ll fall in love with the river once you experience it first-hand.
Introducing the community to the river and greenway through canoeing, kayaking, and bicycling, and more.

Accomplishments over the last few years include:
Bronx indigenous history is all around us. Once a lifeline for Native American nations that lived here, the river now relies on us for its future.
To better understand the the history, culture, and the river, we must take time to learn all three. We can all become keepers of our truth and reconnect.
Get up close with the creatures, plants, and moving on the river. Go it alone, or bring family and friends to relish the only freshwater river in New York City.
Whether you get a workout or flow lazily down the current, you’ll find renewal in our natural home and water.
Oysters are returning! Once populous here, oysters were nearly extinct. But a coalition of groups including Bronx River Alliance installed NY harbor’s largest oyster reef at the mouth of the Bronx River in 2013. With seeding and monitoring, plans are for the reef to grow to 5 acres by 2022.
One oyster can filter as much as 50 gallons of water each day. The reefs provide valuable habitat for other helpful aquatic organisms, flood protection, and more.Â
Learn about this regenerative project, and how to volunteer. We need the oysters, the oysters need you!
Get out on your wheels on the Greenway trails. Explore the river’s edge and through a series of parks—over 23 miles. Or take a shorter trip.
Check out the biking guide and safety tips. They’ll help you have an enjoyable ride through the nature of the Bronx River. See you on the trails!Â
Deepen your roots in transforming your own ecosystem: restoring the river, making the greenway viable for wildlife, creating parks and trails, growing food, and making this accessible to all.Â
You’ll feel more part of this land and the people (and nature) living with it.
The Bronx River Alliance serves as a coordinated voice for the river and works in harmonious partnership to protect, improve and restore the Bronx River corridor so that it can be a healthy ecological, recreational, educational and economic resource for the communities through which the river flows.
