With heavy hearts, the Bronx River Alliance says goodbye to Peter Doherty. Peter was a lifelong resident of the Bronx and was an active volunteer and supporter of the Bronx River. He first became aware of the Bronx River Alliance and its mission while leading volunteers for New York Cares in Crotona Park. Since then, he volunteered often with the Bronx River Alliance, helping with river cleanups, particularly through Project WASTE.
“I have seen the tremendous impact the Bronx River Alliance has made and I am proud to do what I can to help.”
“I volunteer with the Bronx River Alliance primarily in cleaning up the Bronx River and projects that get people out on the river. One of my primary goals is to help bridge the disconnect between people from underserved communities and people with disabilities, and the environment.”
He gave so much of himself to the Bronx River and today we thank him for everything he contributed. He will be remembered for his generous spirit as well as his enthusiasm for life.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested the Bronx River Alliance to provide the below link for donations in Memory of Peter Doherty. Half of the donations received will be send out to Drew Gardens as requested by his family.
All funds raised towards the Bronx River Alliance will be dispensed towards protecting and stewarding the green spaces that Peter loved so dearly, and towards providing hands-on experiences with nature for local Bronx youth.
